How to Break in a Glove
By Chris Anthony Ferrer
February 5 - 22, 2026

A world premiere play developed through City Theatre's HOMEGROWN playwright development program designed to give local writers the time, tools, and guidance to create new work.
Miami, 1999. A boy grips a baseball glove like it’s the last solid thing in his life. Around him, three generations of family unravel and collide: an unyielding grandfather, a grandmother carrying the weight, a father desperate to matter, and a mother caught between rebellion and duty. One night changes everything. Secrets break open. Bonds are tested. Love is stretched thin. Like a baseball glove, they must stretch and soften to hold on.
“This is a tender and deeply personal story of a Cuban-American family finding connection across generations, navigating tradition, change, and the unspoken love that binds them.”
– Margaret Ledford, artistic director of City Theatre.
With the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.
Additional support provided by the Miami Downtown Development Authority's Downtown Creative Collaborator Grant and the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation.
