WE WANT YOUR MIAMI GHOST STORY

Miami has secrets. Some of them are dead, some of them aren't.

 

City Theatre is looking for playwrights to pitch ideas for short plays that are seductive, creepy, tense, surprising, and yes, funny is good too. We want horror/ghost stories set in Miami that explore its history, neighborhoods, legends, landmarks, people, or present realities. Tell a great story that could only happen in Miami and give us a reason to be scared. Storytelling over spectacle. 

 

WE’RE INTERESTED IN

• Things or people that come back.

• The last one out.

• What once was buried.

• Promises not delivered.

• Eviction or displacement.

 

We are asking for pitches, not finished plays. Selected playwrights will develop their pieces with the producers into 8-12 minute short plays. Scripts can have three characters maximum. Producers may introduce a specific Miami location, historical event or time period, object, or other element to incorporate.

 

COMPENSATION

 

• $250 commission for selected playwrights

• $25 per-performance royalty

 

THE DEADLINES

 

Pitches due: Friday, September 18, 2026 by midnight

 

• Selections notified: Monday, September 21

• 1st Draft: Monday, September 28 by 10 PM

• 2nd Draft: Monday, October 5 by 5 PM

• Final Rehearsal Draft: Sunday, October 11 by noon
