City Theatre's 2024 Emerging Artists Program

Are you an early-career theatre artist eager to expand your skills and network?  

 

City Theatre is committed to nurturing emerging artists by equipping them with a diverse set of skills to ensure they're well prepared to pursue a sustainable career in various aspects of theatre. The City Theatre Emerging Artists Program 2024 offers a unique, paid opportunity to dive into the theatre industry through hands-on experience in acting and production. 
 

Who Should Apply? 

 

This program is designed for early-career theatre artists ready to take their skills to the next level. Whether you're just starting out or looking to transition into a new aspect of theatre, this opportunity is for you. 
 

Program Highlights: 
 
Professional Developme
nt: Develop your acting and production skills under the guidance of experienced theatre professionals. 
Active Participation: Serve as a production assistant and contribute to the success of our annual Summer Shorts short play festival. Assist in key production roles such as stage management, working as run crew, assisting in scenic and props creation, and supporting costume design.  
Onstage Opportunities: Gain practical acting experience through understudy roles for principal leads and the opportunity to perform roles in selected short plays. 
Networking and Community: Add professional credit to your resume, connect with a network of working theatre professionals, and join a community of artists in South Florida. 
 

What You'll Gain: 
 
Comprehensive Skill Building: Develop your acting and production capabilities in a professional setting, gaining hands-on experience in stage management, scenic and props design, costumes, and more. 
Insider Knowledge: Learn the ins and outs of the theatre industry, from rehearsal to performance including production management and design.

Key Dates:  

 

This year's Summer Shorts will rehearse and perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. Key dates are listed below: 

 

Week of May 13, 2024: Rehearsals start 

Wednesday, May 29, 2024: Designer Run followed by Production Meeting 

Saturday, June 1, 2024, and Sunday, June 2, 2024: Load-In  

Tuesday, June 4, 2024, and Wednesday, June 5: Tech 

Thursday, June 6, 2024: Tech & Preview Night 

Friday, June 7, 2024 (tbd tech in AM): Opening Night Performance 

Sunday, June 23, 2024: Closing performance at 2:30 pm immediately followed by Strike 

Monday, June 24, 2024: Strike + Returns (Props)
