City Theatre recognizes that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances.

As one of South Florida’s oldest cultural institutions, City Theatre recognizes its obligation to reflect the rich cultural diversity of our community.  We reaffirm our commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, as a company and as people. City Theatre acknowledges the pain and outrage that systemic racism has created in our industry and in our society.  We stand in solidarity with our friends, artists, patrons, and fellow citizens to end injustice and fight oppression in all forms.

To that end, City Theatre is pushing its institutional and artistic policies and practices toward creating a more inclusive and diverse organization dedicated to equity and working against racism. We are focused on making more access and opportunities for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) theatre professionals and producing more work from these professionals to amplify their stories for all audiences. We are committed to achieving these goals. We acknowledge that while we might not always achieve them immediately, practice makes change. For City Theatre to be a sustainable, relevant, and evolving company, we rely on and encourage our friends, artists, patrons,  and fellow citizens to hold us accountable to these goals.

Land Acknowledgment

City Theatre acknowledges the lands and waterways on which we create theatre are ancestral, traditional, and contemporary homelands of sovereign Native Nations. We offer our respect and gratitude to the Seminole, Miccosukee, Taino, and Tequesta people as the original stewards of the land and appreciate the ongoing relationship Indigenous people maintain with the land to this day. It is important to recognize the violence, dispossession, and removal that has scarred this land, as well as the resiliency and strength of Native Nations. This acknowledgment reflects our sincere commitment to recognizing the historical and ongoing legacy of colonialism and honoring Indigenous people everywhere.
