For 12 years, Miami's City Theatre has amassed a winning combination of well-written brief playlets, some of the area's most nimble actors and capable directors in a celebration of theater in shorthand. This summer, the group moved into new surroundings at the Carnival Center's black box Studio Theater and harnessed it well, for one of the company's most brisk, effective productions yet.

Such area playwrights as Michael McKeever (Splat!) and Susan Westfall (Uprising) more than held their own against nationally recognized writers and cast members Stephen Trovillion, Irene Adjan and Tom Wahl were standouts among the performers.

Next month, the festival moves north to the Broward Center for a weekend, July 12-15.
